How Hackers Broke Into Real News Sites to Plant Fake Stories

This article describes how a hacking group targeted Eastern European countries with disinformation campaigns. Their strategy was to hack the content management systems of news websites to post their own stories, and then disseminate those stories as quickly as possible through email and social media before the fake stories were taken down. This has caused anti-US and anti-NATO disinformation a well as COVID-19-related disinformation to spread through Eastern Europe.
