Machines, Modifications of Nature, and Engineering Ethics

In this article, the author argues that while codes of conduct are important, they are not sufficient in solving the complex moral issues that arise in engineering. The author argues that the engineers themselves must also understand the impact these issues have on society. Through describing engineering as a "modification of nature," the author proposes a number of ways in which engineers should consider the impact of the technology they build.
