Status Anxiety (Video)
Source: The School of Life
In this video, The School of Life discusses status anxiety – the anxiety that arises when we get asked "what we do." Our professional identities often dictate the way others value us, as well as the way we value ourselves. In our society, which has been deemed fair, we feel that, when we are not succeeding, it is because we do not deserve to succeed. How should we manage? First, we ought not to believe that any society can be completely meritocratic. Second, we ought to formulate our own definition of success. Third, we ought not to let our outer achievements dictate our internal self-worth.
