Wages Against Housework

Wages Against Housework

Source: Silvia Federici

In this short essay, Silvia Federici argues not only that women should receive wages for the housework they are expected to do, but also that this ought to represent a shift in political perspective away from the traditional view of women's role in a capitalist society. It is a revolutionary perspective shift because, in Federici's words, "to want wages for housework means to refuse that work as the expression of our nature, and therefore to refuse precisely the female role that capital has invented for us."
