In these excerpts from Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics, he discusses what it takes to live a good life. Aristotle argues that, like a knife is created for some purpose, similarly human beings have a purpose or function: to use reason to pursue happiness (or flourishing) in accord with the virtues.
